Our local Lancing and Sompting U3A Group held their monthly meeting in the Lancing Tabernacle Hall on Tuesday 1st September. It was very well attended and included several non-members who had come along to enjoy the speaker and find out what the group had to offer. The speaker, from Amberly Museum and Heritage Centre spoke about the history of the museum and its many interesting displays and working exhibits. Using a slide show he told us many interesting stories about how they came by the collections and the tremendous skill of their volunteer workforce in rebuilding and restoring old exhibits like busses, trams and steam engines. It was a very enjoyable talk.

Many people expressed an interest in an organised U3A visit to the museum in the near future.

Another well attended event was the launch of the new WRVS Lunch Club on Wednesday 2nd September. Based at the newly re-furbished Chesham House Centre the pilot scheme aimed at the older local population, many of whom live alone was very well received. Many had fond memories of the Centre and were pleased to learn it has plans to launch several other schemes including a ‘drop-in’ cafe in the near future.
